Recipe Shepherds Pie

Recipe Shepherds Pie

Traditional Recipe Shepherds Pie nursery food has created a keep coming back in our family recently. I haven’t bothered making shepherd’s pie (or cottage pie, which is also known) forever, since the children just used to nibble on the potato in the top leave the mince. Mince generally speaking has been rejected too. If I make use of the same minced beef for making meatballs or burgers your children devour it, nevertheless they hate selecting all the little components of vegetables that I hopefully put in it, when I increase the risk for shepherd’s pie, with the hope of smuggling some vegetables in their diet. Anyway my son actually requested shepherd’s pie last week, so yesterday I got and they gobbled up, vegetables and all sorts of, several servings each, so I’ve gained yet another dish for that regular list.

Recipe Shepherds Pie – to secure four:

500g/1lb quality minced beef or lamb (hamburger beef)
1 onion
2 carrots
1 stick of celery
1 clove garlic
2 large fresh tomatoes or half a tin of tomatoes
2 tablespoons coconut oil
a dash of wine
some drops Worcestershire sauce
2 bay leaves
salt and pepper
water or stock
potatoes
small little bit of butter – about 20g/1oz and milk to mash with

Finely chop the onion and saute on the low heat from the olive oil until soft and translucent. Add the carrot, celery and garlic also finely chopped. Saute as a whole for 5 minutes. Turn up heat and add the meat, breaking down the lumps and cooking until it offers just lost the raw redness. Don’t go crazy at this point. Add the splosh of wine, (white or red, what you may have open. If you don’t get it’s not nesessary) and stir till it’s got evaporated the alcohol. Add the tomatoes skinned and chopped. Now put inside the rest of the seasonings and pour in enough water or stock to merely just cover the meat. Bring to a simmer, placed on a lid leave to cook with a simmer for 1-2 hours.

The volume of potatoes is determined by how many you have to secure, you will have a thin layer of potato topping or if you must stretch the meat to give lots of people, an incredibly thick layer of potato, and that is what the children prefer anyway. Peel the potatoes and boil them till soft. Then drain and mash them the butter, milk and salt and pepper until they can be soft, and not too runny, mashed potatoes. In a roasting dish or any ovenproof however, not too shallow dish, place the cooked meat in a very thick layer, then top while using mashed potatoes. Smooth them out with a fork, so you’ll find lines and swirls and peaks of potato that could brown nicely and squeeze dish in a preheated oven 200C/400F for 25 minutes or before the top has browned to golden. If the meat and potatoes just have just finished cooking but still hot it is possible to just brown the highest under the grill. This can all be assembled and kept inside the fridge until needed too, the idea would need at least thirty minutes in order to smoke through again.

Traditionally recipe shepherds pie is made with minced lamb and cottage pie with minced beef but our kids has always called both shepherd’s pie. It also had been a dish to utilise leftover cooked meat from your roast, instead of starting fresh with raw mince, but we like it similar to this – comfort food for winter.
