Double Decker Pastry

This recipe for double decker pastry is undoubtedly an experience for any individual, it’s type of unique and extremely different from today’s baking, today all you have to do is proceed to the market and pick something from the shelf, place it in the microwave and you’ve got it.
Well I’m old fashion only when it’s something I’m planning to eat and get, I need to have mitts and undertake it the old way.

OK enough jabber let’s start the recipe therefore we can enjoy it, remember your ingredients needs to be room temperature or in close proximity to it.

Ingredients for dough for double decker pastry:

5 cups unsifted flour
1 cup sugar
4 teaspoons baing powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
pinch of salt
½ pound butter softened
2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
4 egg yolks
½ pint sour cream
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla

Ingredients for filling:

2 ½ cups ground walnuts
½ cup sugar for nuts
jam or lekvar or whatever you decide to like
Sift together 5 cups flour, 1 cup sugar, 4 teaspoons baking powder, 2 teaspoons baking soda.

Add the butter, shortening, 4 egg yolks, ½ pint sour cream, 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla as well as the pinch of salt.

Combine many of these ingredients as part of your processor or mixer.

Divide dough into 3 parts, reveal the first piece and set it onto a 10 ½ inch x 15 ½ inch cookie sheet.

Mix together:

2 ½ cups ground walnuts
½ cup sugar for nuts
jam or lekvar or anything you like
Spread several of this mixture onto the initial layer of dough, then unveil another little bit of dough make it in addition to the filling, put even more of the filling in addition to the second layer of dough, now with the third section of dough roll against eachother and create a lattice top with your creation.

Bake in the preheated 350 degree oven for 40 to 45 minutes, cool and cut.
