Every time I’d glanced over the book it had always intrigued me, but I’d never completed it before. Because the idea of using lavender in baking seemed just a little bizarre interesting but probably getting upshot of ‘yuk Mum, exactly what are these bits?’

Anyway, within the spirit of culinary adventure, I thought I’d check it out. The ingredients were minimal – butter, sugar, flour and flowers! Lavender florets. So off I attended pick the lavender.

Not much was required, just two tablespoons of fresh florets (the small purple flower bits away from the main stalk), so I a nice therapeutic moment choosing the proper stalks from my lavender hedge, that’s still producing new flowers despite it being the center of winter here.

Then came the mixing the many ingredients together in a crumbly dough, that is more crumb than dough, but eventually did all come together.

After its rest inside the fridge, I tentatively rolled out the dough, still crumbling badly, but it really was eventually persuaded to remain together by an insistent rolling pin.

They left the oven, fragrant and golden. The moment of reckoning drew near. Children, scenting new baking, gathered around. The girls uncritically tucked in, my son, the conservative connoisseur, turned away but changed his mind with the appreciative noises around him. A cautious nibble and that he was convinced – I was not looking to poison them…!

So my experiment was deemed successful. The adults, later your evening, also liked them. ”Elizabethan” suggested my sister-in-law, and “packaged in a very pretty box they’d create a great gift”. I have to admit here that, because of the choice of a chocolate biscuit or perhaps a lavender one, your children would unanimously elect chocolate, nevertheless the fact that they considered them edible in any respect, whenever they knew that they flowers in, is quite high praise due to this recipe. I was the individual that surreptitiously finished them over next morning with my tea. That fragrant flavor on the palate, clean yet sweet, was irresistible!
