2 sticks (8 ounces) unsalted butter, at room temperature
½ vanilla bean (halved crosswise), split lengthwise
5 ½ cups (650g) powdered sugar
1-2 tablespoons whole milk

Cup measure
Electric mixer with whisk or beater attachment
Food colouring (if desired)

  1. Just tried the recipe. Was easy for a first timer but my only problem was after awhile piping the frosting wasn't sticking to my cake.

  2. So do u have a recipe for people who live in hot areas like Louisiana who need a little shortening to prevent the icing from melting

  3. So… My frosting was a good consistency and was going onto my cupcakes perfectly, but after I put it in the fridge for about a day the frosting would just pop off the cupcakes, any way to prevent this?

  6. Sorry if this is an obvious question. But in Australia at Coles there is Soft icing mix, ugar, pure icing sugar and Caster sugar. Which one should i buy??? Thank you.

  9. Honestly, I would never recommend buttercream, it is way too sweet and sickly, if you want a nicer alternative use double cream, mascarpone cheese and icing sugar, also the flavouring of your choice x or use a meringue based cream x

  10. Every single time I make buttercream it's funny, what am I doing wrong? I follow recipes to a T I think I am doomed forever on this. Could it be the brand of butter?

  12. Great tips. I'm going to try it with my mixer. The food coloring you suggested states that it won't work with with dairy icings. Have you used this coloring gel with your buttercream icing?

Arghhh love this channel but for some reason I can't print out the recipe 🙁 I have always done my butter creme using the paddle attachment, would you recommend using the whisk attachment instead? I also have a beville. Thanks for the note on the milk too sometimes I do it perfect other times its so sloppy
