This Chili Recipe is truly an award winning chili recipe because it has won me 1st place two years in a row in chili cook off competitions at my work This chili recipe beat out 12 people in the 2011 chili cook off. I used the exact same recipe in 2012 and beat out 8 other peoples chili recipes in that chili cook off.

Here’s the Award Winning Chili Recipe:

I’ve omitted the taco seasoning. It’s not necessary.

Ingredients:
– 1 lb of hamburger
– 1 lb of pork sausage
– 1 can of kidney beans
– 2 cans of chili beans
– 1 jar of chili sauce (12 ounces)
– 1 jar of medium salsa (or homemade if you prefer)
– 1 medium onion chopped
– 1 green pepper chopped
– 1 Tbl mince garlic
– 3 Tbl chili powder
– 1 Tbl Cumin
– 1 Tbl black pepper
– 1 Tbl salt (or to taste)
– 1/2 Tbl tabasco (or to taste)

Directions:
Brown Hamburger, add to crock pot.
Brown sausage, add to crock pot.
Saute onion and green pepper, add to crock pot.

Add all of the remaining ingredients to the crock pot. Cook for 2 hours or longer (longer is better).

  1. I’m not much for using a lot of processed foods in a chili, I think of chili as a comfort food that should be homemade 🙂 but to each his own haha I’m sure it tasted great

  2. Best out of 11 people? That’s like applying to Harvard and saying I graduated first In my class of 15 people. But damn this chili is good

  3. I made this chili for a competition in Texas. There was over 50 chili’s entered and I took 2nd place with this recipe. I’m going to enter again with this same recipe and see how it goes. Hopefully I can take first this time.

  5. This was very good and easy! I love the heat and backed off the chili sauce to 1/2 bottle to get the sweet to my liking. Thanks for sharing this.

  6. What type of chilli sauce do you use. I can only find asain sweet chill style. Any brands you recommend? How long to cook in crock pot.

  7. I just started a pot. Tell you what if it's half as good cooked as it smells before cooking it's a skookum choocher.

  8. I made this tonight. The heat was perfect but it was way too sweet. The only thing I can figure is the taco seasoning was the culprit. It is the only thing I did not really know how it would work with the other ingredients. Any ideas? Thanks for sharing!

  11. Holy cow that is a lot of ingredients. But if you won an award who can complain. Nice to see your son watching, good influence on a young guy.

  12. My definition of chilli is, a shit load of beef mince and tons of canned tomatoes, onions, and a mountain load of chilli peppers, and chilli sauce. Topped with a cows arse full of cheese

  13. I love good food and this is the best chili i have ever seen. Bravo man, great recipee. You deserved the win. I am going definetely to cook it as you showed it.
    Greetings from Greece!

  14. beans are not allowed in true chili cook offs, the judges consider it to be fillers, all they want is meat and sauce, this chili looks great but the beans is a big no no to true Texas red.

  15. Made it today and absolutely LOVE IT! Thank you so much. Had just a tad of sweetness to it I didn't expect, but it was absolutely perfect.
